This Tuesday the beautiful girls of Dunamis created bracelets during their jewelry making workshop. The girls are diligent, focused, and often wear smiles after finishing a piece of jewelry. There are countless joys to meet the countless heartbreaks of coming beside the girls as a missionary here serving with Dunamis. One of the joys is to witness the girls, who on their first day to Dunamis often arrive quiet, timid, unsure of themselves and of their environment. As the weeks progress, we pray, we love, and we seek Christ in all things to bring healing, comfort, and truth into their guarded hearts. As a girl creates jewelry, she has the opportunity to make her own choices, express parts of herself, and with some frustrations and breakthroughs in the process, eventually design something that is her own. Some girls show their bracelets with pride and joy, some conserve their satisfaction in more subtle ways. But in the end, as a caregiver for these girls, every smile is a victory and reflection of Christ’s work within them,every time a girl decides to continue in the creation process rather than give in, is a building block to restoring their self-esteem. And Jesus, who comes to us exactly where we are, is present and powerful in this restoration process. We thank you Jesus, that you have provided Dunamis as a safe place for these girls to come as they are, and begin to make their own choices and explore, create, and design something beautiful. We continue to pray that in this journey, the girls will begin to grasp how wide, high, and deep the love of Christ is for each of them, and that Christ, in his steadfast, relentless love is at work within each of them.
