There is always something new to learn and in Dunamis we are constantly trying to improve the motor skills of the girls in the foundation. The sewing workshop is an important workshop that we have implemented on our daily program. The girls are learning to work with their hands and they are also learning to work with machines, this new skills that they have acquired will let them, in the future, open up their own workshop, work as tailors or even earn money by fixing clothes. Not only do they know how to sew, they make amazing puppets and hand made teddies which they get to keep at the end of the class.
Our goal is let them know they are capable of creating anything they feel like, we boost their creativity and as a reward they get to keep what they created, but also, the feeling of accomplishment helps them perform better in the future.
We work with donated materials of teams that have come to Dunamis, all of our machines were donated and the materal as well. To continue this workshop we need to make constant maintenance to the machines and we need to purchase materials (in case it isn’t donated), the rest is up to us, to imagine and create things like: puffy animals, table runners, pot holders and others.
